Portable Basketball Hoops and Goals

Portable basketball goals are a great option for indoor gyms, and are sometimes a good option for outdoor areas as well.  Our portable hoops come in a variety of different colors, with a variety of different backboard and rim options.  They also span a big price-range, so if you're looking for a relatively inexpensive portable system, we have just the hoop.  But if you're looking for more complex basketball equipment, we also have great options for you.

Typically, portable hoops cater to indoor situations, and often have a better aesthetic look and feel. And their biggest advantage, of course, is that they are in fact "portable".  Move the entire basketball system to different areas of your gym, or arena with very little effort.  And all of our hoops carry warranties, in the unlikely event that something happens.  Take a look at our systems, and give us a call if you have any questions.  We're eager to help you find the right portable basketball hoop that is perfect for you!

Portable Basketball Goals - Facts About Basketball Hoops That Will Save Your Money and Hassle

Portable basketball goals are a fantastic choice. But before you make that important purchase, make certain that you are making the best choice for your basketball needs.
There are lots of great things bout portable basketball goals. They give you all the fun of playing basketball in our driveway, but you don’t ever have to deal with cementing a pole permanently into your driveway. Plus, if you ever feel inclined to move the whole system somewhere else, you can do that. But there are tons of portable basketball hoops out there. Some good, others not so good. Knowing how to distinguish the two can make your basketball playing life a ton easier.

Is Adjustment Important? - Sometimes people spring for a lot of extra money when buying their portable basketball goal, but is that really necessary? For people who think that they are going to be adjusting the basketball hoop often, it definitely is, such as when there are people of varying ages in the house whoa ll want to use the basketball system. But if you just want to play basketball at the regulation height of ten feet all of the time, this should be less of a concern.

Beware of Cold temperature - Typically, the instructions for a portable basketball base instruct you to fill up the portable basketball hoop with water, but you live in a chilly part of the country, you should be somewhat cautious about this. When water turns to ice in freezing weather, it expands, and that could lead to the ice block cracking the base, which will render it essentially useless. There are two big ways that you can protect your portable basketball goal. You can either simply remember to add some anti freeze to your portable basketball base, thus keeping the water safely liquid through cold weather, or you can just fill it up with sand instead of water.

Check Out Mobility – If you are getting the portable basketball goal because you think that you are going to move it very frequently, such as moving to your driveway during the day and moving it back into the garage when you are done with it, you should know what mobility options there are. For instance, there are a couple of portable basketball hoops that actually have handles right on the front of a basketball hoop. So instead of tilting the system, you should pull it to wherever you choose.

Bigger Backboards Aren’t Always Better - Generally, big backboards are awesome. This give you a lot more room to do bank shots and other cool moves. But if you are buying for kids, it isn’t really necessary to get huge sixty or seventy two inch models. In fact, getting a smaller fifty four inch model will be helpful because the less weight of the backboard will make it easier to keep the whole pole stable. Plus assembly on these basketball systems is usually less of a hassle.

What are They?

Portable basketball hoops, just the name implies, are basketball hoops that are designed to be moved from spot to spot should you have the need.  They are stabilized via a plastic base that can be filled with either sand or water.  They typically have wheels on the front of the base that allows you to simply tilt the whole system forward and roll to the desired location.

What is Assembly Like?

The time required to assemble an portable basketball goal can vary widely.  Some cheaper systems are extremely easy to build and can have you up and shooting hoops in under an hour.  Other, more complicated portable basketball systems can have you working all day. It usually helps if you have your own set of tools to assemble a portable goal.  The tools that usually come in the tool pack are usually very small and difficult to use, so having your own quality tools can speed assembly greatly.

Pros

The main advantage of portable units is that they are fairly easy to move around.  And they also are typically a lot easier to assemble than in ground goals.  While in ground systems usually require you to purchase extra cement, the only thing you need to add to a portable goal is water to fill the base.   While in ground basketball goals make you wait a few days until the cement cures until you are able to play on it, you can play on a portable goal on the first day that you purchase it.

Cons

Because they don’t have the advantage of being stabilized by cement, portable basketball goals usually wobble and vibrate more than in ground systems. And since a portable base can hold up as much weight as a cemented pole, the backboards on portable systems are typically a little smaller. On residential portable basketball systems, you usually don’t have the option of buying one with glass. And since they are not totally stabilized in the ground, there is really no way to safely dunk on them.

Possible Basketball Accessories

Some portable basketball units come with latches that allow you to further stabilize the unit in a particular space.  In order to use this features, you have to purchase a couple hooks and cement them into the ground.
As always, it’s a good idea to purchase a pole pad.  It will help prevent injuries that can result from collision with the unit.
Anther popular accessory for portable basketball hoops is a Rolbak net.  This is a net that stretches from the bottom of the backboard to the floor and helps prevent airballs form rolling into the sidewalk.
